Summer 2023 Release
First, we present you with our highly anticipated 2022 Vin Gris. A dry rose made from a saignee of fully ripe Cabernet Franc. Bright pink and beautiful, with a vibrant nose of candied strawberry and fresh cream. We only made 50 cases of this summertime quaff so, stock up now before we drink it all!
Our next two offerings juxtapose two vintages of Pinot Noir from our Quast vineyard. First is the 2017 vintage, with its earthy, tart cherry nose, and bright, lean mouthfeel; a favorite of the Underground. Then there’s the 2020 vintage. This is a departure from our usual lightweight, Burgundian style. A hot, dry summer provided us with extremely small berries and very concentrated fruit, leading to a dense wine with a much fuller body. While mercifully cool evenings helped maintain acid and provide a breeze of freshness amid a sea of intensity.
Finally, we are proud to present our 2020 Meritage. Which is not an Appassimento this time around. With the stellar growing season, we simply did not feel it was necessary, and one sip of this wine’s power and depth provided proof. The aggressive tannin structure stands out right now, and we recommend at least an hour (or twenty-four) in a decanter. Or, better yet, get extra bottles and keep them in your cellar for five years before you look at them again.
The bottles of 2020 Meritage were generously painted by local artist, Karle Norman. Primarily a figurative and landscape painter, Karle’s Same Inside series can be seen in two public art projects in partnership with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Building connections and community with other artists is a key component of his practice.
