Spring 2024 Release

For our first offering this month, we present our new 2021 Seanpenoise. This one is 100% Pinot Noir, made in a Blanc de Noir Brut style. A fully sparkling wine made using the traditional Champagne Method is rested for a full year on the lees before disgorgement. The result is a dry crisp sparkler with a yeasty nose and a fine, persistent mousse.

Our second wine continues our quest for the perfect Chardonnay oak treatment. For years we used only French oak with our Chardonnay program. And we played with different forests, levels of toast, even barrels using steam bent vs. fire bent construction methods. Then in 2021 we started experimenting with Hungarian and American oak. The 2022 Chardonnay is the next step in our journey. We present to you a wine aged in 100% American oak. The nose is boisterous with toasted coconut, peach cobbler, and green apple. The palate is round and creamy with a bolt of fresh acidity carrying the finish. We are very proud of this wine, but the oak journey will continue!

The 2018 Rosie’s Garden Pinot Noir is making a return this release. It is one of our favorites, in part because this is the only vintage to date where we featured this site. The nose is rich and complex with bramble and tart cherry fruit. Vanilla, earth, and spice follow on the palate. This is a wine of elegance and subtlety, and dare we say, reminiscent of Red Burgundy.

Finally, we proudly present, for your hedonistic pleasure, our 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. In this year, nearly sabotaged by hail, we harvested only three tons of Cabernet Sauvignon, and what we got turned into something truly special. This shows a softer side of Cab Sauv while still being true to the varietal. The nose is dominated by cassis and violet, laced with graphite minerality and a whiff of resinous herbs. The palate is bright and fresh with medium weight, silky tannins that coat the mouth without being oppressive.

"It’s hard to believe it has only been two years since we began our mission of assembling a little association of wine lovers, gastronomes, and hedonists. Sharing our passion for small production wine growing and highlighting the Niagara Escarpment’s consistent ability to produce truly world class wines has been a pleasure," stated Vineyard Manager Kurt Guba.

“If you aren’t taking advantage of your discount on all wine-related events, you should be! It is a great way to make the most of your membership. Check out our First Friday Wine Class which is a great way to expand your wine IQ. We will also let you know about pairing dinners, special tastings and vault releases available to Underground Wine Club Members, and you can also check out all of our fun Happenings.” added Winemaker Ryan Sidoti.
